Export channel: Primary Pacific seaborne outlet for Canadian formed sulfur: CN/CPKC rail from Alberta/BC forming sites to PCT Port Moody and Vancouver Wharves, then Panamax/Supramax bulk vessels to Asia, Oceania, Americas.
Technology: Bulk solid sulfur shiploading with quadrant loaders; inland forming produces free-flowing granules/prills suitable for vessel holds. Molten UN 2448 tank cars used on inland legs before forming.

Sultran discloses a network of inland forming sites and a large dedicated railcar fleet (public materials cite on the order of 1,500 railcars and nine inland sites). Cumulative sulfur transported historically cited in the hundreds of millions of tonnes.
2021–2026 history
- 2021: VFPA fertilizer-category sulfur exports about 2.29 Mt, a soft year versus later cycle. China took roughly 0.44 Mt of Vancouver sulfur.
- 2022: Vancouver sulfur exports rose to about 2.79 Mt. Spot FOB midpoints briefly approached levels not seen since 2008 before collapsing with phosphate demand; Argus noted Jan–Oct already above full-year 2021.
- 2023: Sulfur exports about 3.10 Mt. Inland forming additions (Cheecham) increased Fort McMurray solids available for Sultran/PCT and Vancouver Wharves loading.
- 2024: Sulfur exports about 3.35 Mt. Destination mix remained Asia/Oceania-heavy with growing Americas interest.
- 2025: Sulfur exports about 3.51 Mt (+5% y/y). United States destination volume rose ~191% y/y to ~302 kt. Remelt/forming expansions inland supported inventory draw into vessel stems.
- 2026: Pacific Canadian route framed as avoiding Hormuz/Red Sea chokepoints disrupting Middle East sulfur into Asia. Terminal network remains the bottleneck for converting Syncrude-class block inventory into Panamax/Supramax stems.
