Sulfur Wire North American sulfur intelligence

Facilities

Shell Canada (Scotford Complex)

Role: upgrader operator. Public-source facility notes for recovered elemental sulfur context.

Operator of Scotford Upgrader and adjacent refinery/chemicals complex. Shell has described itself as Canada's largest sulfur producer from gas and bitumen upgrading, with pellets shipped via Vancouver.

Marketable sulfur: ~0.5–0.6 (Scotford upgrader, industry estimate) Mt/a (industry_estimate). BC Insight / CRU trade commentary has cited ~580,000 t/a for Shell Scotford upgrader within ~700,000 t/a Edmonton-area oil sands sulfur. Treat as estimate, not a Shell audited disclosure.

Export channel: Solid pellets formed for international shipment via Port of Vancouver; molten movements also possible within North America.

Technology: Sulfur recovered from bitumen upgrading acid gas; converted to pellets for bulk handling. Scotford hosts Quest CCS on hydrogen units (CO2 context, not sulfur).
